Kibale Forest National Park, covering an area of approximately 795 square kilometers (307 square miles), is celebrated for its exceptional primate diversity. It is often referred to as the “Primate Capital of the World” due to the sheer number of primate species that call the forest home.
Kibale Forest is a haven for primates, housing an astonishing 13 different species. The park’s most famous residents are the chimpanzees, which are habituated to human presence, offering an extraordinary opportunity to observe these intelligent beings up close. Other primate species include red colobus monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and L’Hoest’s monkeys.
Birdwatchers will also find Kibale Forest to be a birding paradise, with over 375 bird species recorded within the park. The rich avian diversity includes colorful turacos, hornbills, and the elusive green-breasted pitta. Getting Here

Best Time to Visit
Kibale Forest can be visited year-round, but the dry seasons of June to September and December to February are considered the best times for chimpanzee tracking. During these periods, the forest paths are drier and more manageable for trekking. However, Kibale’s wildlife and primates are abundant throughout the year, offering unique experiences in each season.
